On December 31, the 2023 Hengqin Life Hengqin Marathon, certified by the Chinese Athletics Association, hosted by the Executive Committee of the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, and undertaken by Zhuhai Huafa Group Co., Ltd. and Nam Kwong (Group) Co., Ltd., was successfully held in the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin. 20,000 runners set off from the Central Park of Hengqin Financial Island with strong steps and the morning light, and one of the 200-member Chinese White Dolphin Protection Charity Running Group was particularly eye-catching. Since 2018, it has appeared in the Hengqin Marathon for 5 consecutive times, and is committed to promoting the popular science knowledge of Chinese white dolphins and advocating the concept of environmental protection and health through the 10,000-person marathon.

The members of the running group are composed of volunteers from the Municipal Disabled Persons' Federation, the Municipal Volunteer Federation, the Municipal Red Cross, the Municipal Charity Federation, the White Dolphin Sanctuary Administration, the Mangrove Reserve Management Office and Huafa Group.

Protecting Chinese white dolphins is a marathon.

The Chinese white dolphin is a national first-class key protected marine mammal, and its evolutionary history, life history, physiological and ecological characteristics have high scientific research value, and it has the reputation of 'sea giant panda' and 'sea national treasure'. The waters of the Pearl River Estuary are the most densely distributed and resource-rich area of Chinese white dolphins in China. In order to better protect the biodiversity of the habitat area of the Chinese white dolphin and the waters of the Pearl River Estuary, the Pearl River Estuary Chinese White Dolphin National Nature Reserve was established in 1999.

Zhuhai Huafa Public Welfare Foundation officially started operation in 2018. According to Lin Hongmin, deputy secretary-general of the Huafa Public Welfare Foundation, at that time, they paid attention to the very rare 'sea giant panda' living in the waters of the Pearl River Estuary - the Chinese white dolphin, and the Pearl River Estuary Chinese White Dolphin National Nature Reserve Administration is located on Qi'ao Island, but the citizens of Zhuhai rarely know about it. Soon, the two organizations began to cooperate, and it happened that they learned that the first Hengma would be held, which was very suitable for carrying out science popularization and education work on the protection of Chinese white dolphins.

The two themes of 'sports + environmental protection' hit it off. Adhering to the belief that 'protecting Chinese white dolphins is a marathon', the three parties have worked together for five years. The Chinese White Dolphin Conservation Charity Run has allowed more and more people to understand the knowledge of Chinese White Dolphin Conservation and has also given warmth to the event.

03 Work together to look forward to the future

The runners of the Chinese White Dolphin Conservation Charity Run Group wore T-shirts printed with the Chinese White Dolphin Conservation Public Welfare Poster and the slogan 'Protecting Chinese White Dolphins is a Marathon', which was very eye-catching in the mighty team. They ran on the beautiful track of the Hengqin Marathon and practiced the road of green environmental protection with solid and powerful steps.

Since the 2018 Chinese White Dolphin Conservation Charity Run joined the Hengqin Marathon for the first time, the Chinese White Dolphin Conservation Public Welfare Action has continuously expanded its public welfare influence. The charity running group specially invited people with disabilities in Zhuhai to participate, so that the majority of people with disabilities can contribute to the protection of Chinese white dolphins, and at the same time, they can better integrate into social life and realize their self-worth. Children and parents have been organized many times to carry out nature observation and stall cleaning activities in the mangrove forest of Qi'ao Island to warm up for the charity run.

At the site of the 2023 Hengqin Marathon, the Huafa Public Welfare Foundation set up a special public welfare poster exhibition to display the award-winning works of the 2nd 'Huafa Public Welfare Cup' College Student Environmental Protection Public Welfare Poster Competition, which were also printed on the T-shirts of the public welfare running group, and the environmental protection works and concepts were disseminated through multiple channels and three-dimensionally.

Before the race, the runners spontaneously passed on the knowledge of Chinese white dolphins by forwarding the science popularization pictures on the Foundation's official account. After the race, the runners came to the special exhibition boards and booths of Huafa Public Welfare Foundation, checked in the White Dolphin publicity booth, watched the exhibition of environmental protection public welfare posters, and received public welfare completion certificates and environmental souvenirs.

On the carnival stage, a fun quiz activity of Chinese white dolphins was also carried out, attracting hundreds of runners to stop and watch and actively participate.

The 2023 Hengqin Marathon Charity Run for the Protection of Chinese White Dolphins has come to a successful conclusion, and the runners' pursuit of a healthy lifestyle and green environmental protection concept continues.
